Review (Opinion)

[Original Post Date: 6/10/2015]

In 1997, Bloody Roar was released. It is a unique fighting game, that had MANY sequels. Personally, it is one of my favorite games, but I'm not reviewing for me, I'm review for you. anyway, it is ran on 32 bit graphics, which to today's standards SUCK, but people who are nostalgic about the PS1, the graphics are still quite good.

Graphics Rating: 3/5

Next I'm going to go over the storyline of it. There really isn't one. You're humans that can become anthropomorphic animals and you just fight.

Storyline Rating: 1/5

Now everything Else. All I can say about the game is, basically you fight and when you build up your "Beast" you become anthropomorphic animals and you fight (I know a bit redundant from my storyline section on this game). The game does have some unlockables that are pretty badass. The Characters though are quite boring and really have no backstory to speak of. The overall satisfaction of the game is also dragged down by the soundtrack, It's REALLY bad, it's that corny 90's rock kinda stuff you hear quite often in some of the older games. The soundtrack is so bad, it become good in a bad way. If you play, you better get used to the COMP. move spamming over and over again. It is an enjoyable game, but in small doses.

Part X - Games in Nature

We humans play games often. We play sports, like Basketball and Football. We play board games like Monopoly and Sorry. A lot of us play video games on our television sets that have filled store shelves for almost half a century, but do we really pay attention to our non-human friends, do they play games like we do? Do the millions of species of animals that fill our world, share something that we humans pride ourselves in so much, that there is an industry for it?

First, lets take a look at the Dog, man's best friend. Ever see them wrestle with each other? If so, you witnessed a trait that has been passed down through the years, to even before they were domesticated by humans.

Puppies, they seem to want to wrestle each other almost the instant they open their eyes, but it is not just for playful reasons. The puppies are actually teaching themselves very important lessons. They are learning how to interact with others and what is acceptable. For instance, let's say one of the puppies gets too rough, the game ends there when the other puppy either runs off or bites back in self-defense. The puppy that got too rough learned that being that rough is not acceptable.

The puppies, then carry this wrestling into adulthood. Dogs who wrestle, do so for two reasons, for play and dominance. To tell the difference, you must first look at the body language. If the dog is playing, they will appear more relaxed and their tail may be up and wagging. Dogs at play will often take turns chasing each other as well.

When a dog wrestles for dominance, the dog that is more dominant will pin the other dog to the ground and sometimes begin to mount and hump the dog. In this case, humping has less to do with reproduction and more to do with rank. If the dog allows himself to be mounted, then he has submitted to the more dominate dog.
